When Baby Refuses a BottleBabies can certainly be fussy little creatures at times. Whether you’re attempting to change them, feed them, or put them down to sleep at night, sometimes a child is simply not ready for the task at hand. When your baby refuses feeding time, eventually something has to be done to make sure they get the nourishment they need. Here are some helpful hints for when your child refuses a bottle:

Encouragement

Try to use encouraging communication with your baby when it comes time to offer up the bottle. A combination of talking, praising, and smiling to show they are doing a good job eating will go a long way in making the meal more enjoyable for them. When they begin to refuse the bottle at any point, try taking a quick break to play with them, and hopefully their mood will lighten up again, enough to finish feeding.

Fun Bottles

Children need to be engaged in what they’re doing, and especially so if they are being picky eaters. A baby will most likely be a lot happier to see a cute, fun bottle to drink from, rather than the generic design. Many companies now offer bottles that are molded into fun shapes for your child to play with while they’re feeding. There are also plush toys that can slip over top of your generic bottle to give baby something cute to stare at while they drink up!

Baby See, Baby Do

Since you are the sole role model for your child at these young ages, they will trust your decisions and actions most. Due to this, if you can demonstrate eating to them during feeding time, it will make it a lot easier and more fun for them. Take a sip from their bottle (or at least pretend to) and then make yummy noises to show them how good it tastes. Chances are your child will be much more willing to give it a try now!

Distraction

Luckily for us parents, babies can be easily distracted. This distraction can work in our favor when it comes time to break out the bottle. Try to position your child facing out on your lap (back against your chest) and sit in front of a window or the television. Once your baby has taken an interest in whatever they may be looking at, and then the bottle may be a lot easier to offer to them.

Trickery

As long as it’s for their own good, there’s nothing wrong with a little trickery of babies! If your child is being fussy about feeding time, offer up the pacifier for a couple minutes instead. As they’re happily sucking away on their favorite binky, try to switch the bottle in quickly before they notice what happened! Hopefully they’ll have worked up an appetite by then.

organic bedding and accessoriesWritten by Jennifer Cicci of Babee Talk

As a mother, Jennifer understands the importance of offering nothing by the best for baby. Motivated by teeth marks on her children’s cribs, she decided to design a teething rail cover after trying products that didn’t measure up when it came to quality or style. What she found out made her even more concerned about children’s safety and health: The toxic chemicals used in the production of synthetic materials have been linked to birth defects, reproductive disorders, and weakened immune systems.

She asked herself, “What if I could revolutionize the way parents decorated their crib with a safe and stylish teething rail cover that could be placed on the crib from day one?” Babee Talk® launched in 2014 with organic bedding and accessories. Chew-friendly, drool-friendly, and organic inside and out, her products ensure a healthy start in life for babies.

She only offers products that she would provide for her own children. She hopes moms and dads will start to talk about the importance of choosing safe, healthy, eco-friendly products, especially for babies.
