We all know the importance of drinking water throughout the day, and that’s why I always pack a bottle of water for each of my kids when they go off to school or head out for the day. However, I didn’t always realize how bad plastic water bottles are for our environment and for my family’s health. Many people reuse plastic water bottles to save money and because they want to recycle, but studies have shown us how harmful this really is. Now my family uses water bottles made from stainless steel and other food-grade safe materials.
The main concern with using plastic water bottles is the chemical BPA. This toxic ingredient is found in polycarbonate plastics and it has been linked with breast cancer and prostate cancer, diabetes, heart disease and more. While more companies are now producing products made from BPA-free plastic, there’s still a chance that “BPA-free” plastics may contain other harmful chemicals.
So what other choices are there?
You’re at the store trying to find a water bottle for your child’s lunchbox and you don’t know what to look for. Bottle size, a sturdy top, easy to clean and a fun design are what you may have in mind. But what’s most important is looking for a reusable container made of food-grade safe materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, or glass.
Here are some eco-friendly water bottle choices that are safe for your family:
Klean Kanteen stainless steel bottles keep you hydrated and easily fit in purses and lunch bags. They have an electropolished interior that doesn’t retain or impart flavors, a soft silicone spout, 25% higher flow rate and "chirp" free experience.
2. Life Factory
Life Factory glass bottles offer a pure taste with no leaching from plastics or metals. The new Straw Cap is designed for upright, spillproof sipping (no tipping required). The Straw Cap is perfect for the treadmill and yoga class. The pivoting handle provides a great way to carry the bottle and stows out of the way while drinking.
Drink in the Box is designed in Canada and made from USA sourced TRITANTM, so is fully safety tested, and is BPA and Phthalate Free – so safe to drink from! The product is small and easy to hold, fits nicely in lunch bags, and is fun for kids to use, but it will not leak or squirt making your lunch soggy or your shirt messy!

As a mother, Jennifer understands the importance of offering nothing by the best for baby. Motivated by teeth marks on her children’s cribs, she decided to design a teething rail cover after trying products that didn’t measure up when it came to quality or style. What she found out made her even more concerned about children’s safety and health: The toxic chemicals used in the production of synthetic materials have been linked to birth defects, reproductive disorders, and weakened immune systems.
She asked herself, “What if I could revolutionize the way parents decorated their crib with a safe and stylish teething rail cover that could be placed on the crib from day one?” Babee Talk® launched in 2014 with organic bedding and accessories. Chew-friendly, drool-friendly, and organic inside and out, her products ensure a healthy start in life for babies.
She only offers products that she would provide for her own children. She hopes moms and dads will start to talk about the importance of choosing safe, healthy, eco-friendly products, especially for babies.
